Vikings Sweep Boxers in Forest Grove

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Portland State women's tennis team took care of business against Pacific University on Saturday afternoon, earning its second consecutive road sweep at the Holce Tennis Center.

The Vikings (2-1) were dominant against the Boxers, posting straight-set wins on all six courts in singles action while also sweeping doubles play.

Scarlett Perkins and Nene Uemura opened the match with a 6-1 win over Tiara Yeung and Henleigh Elder at No. 2 doubles. Playing together on the top court for the first time this season, Hana Abdelhamid and Marta Giglio followed with a 6-2 victory over Stella Nishimura and Chloe Takahashi to secure the opening point for Portland State. Anjola Ige and Kasumi Hirayama completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win over Mia Yamaguchi and Brooke Curtis at line three.

Hirayama (No. 3), Giglio (No. 4) and Ige (No. 6) all turned in dominant singles wins, each dropping just one game in their respective matches. Abdelhamid handled her Boxer opponent on court five, winning 6-0, 6-2, while Uemura earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Perkins settled in after a tight opening set — winning 7-6 (5) — before defeating Nishimura 6-1 in the second.

The Vikings return to action Sunday, Feb. 8 for their home opener, hosting Linfield in a 9 a.m. match at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
