Vikings Fall to Pilots

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State men's tennis team fell to Portland, 7-0, on Saturday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.

The Vikings (0-3) were unable to earn their first win in the all-time series against the crosstown rival Pilots (2-1), though Portland State showed fight—particularly in doubles action.

Maas Schoatanus and Edoardo Cravanzola, who teamed up for a win at Oregon last weekend, dropped a 6-3 decision at the No. 1 spot. Luke Lu and Luca Prino battled on court three but came up short, 6-4. On court two, the freshman duo of Aarjun Pandit and Ignacio Ruiz was locked in a tight battle with Stefan Skobelev and Tom Garcia, trailing 6-5 when the point was clinched.

The Pilots secured the match with six straight-set victories in singles. Cravanzola nearly forced a third set on court four, falling in a 10-8 tiebreaker, while Hampus Hagglund pushed Gian Manhas on court six before dropping the opening set 7-6 (4).

The Vikings return to action next week, hosting George Fox in their home opener at Tualatin Hills on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 10:00 a.m.
