Vikings Fall to Ducks in Season Opener

EUGENE, Ore. – The Portland State women's tennis team dropped its season opener at the University of Oregon on Friday, falling 7-0 at the Student Tennis Center.

The match marked the season opener for both the Vikings (0-1) and the Ducks (1-0).

Oregon claimed the opening doubles point with wins at lines one and three, despite Kasumi Hirayama and Nene Uemura holding a 4-3 lead over Patsy Daughters and Hinata Furutani before the match was halted.

The Ducks followed with five straight-set wins in singles play to secure the victory. Scarlett Perkins made her debut at the No. 1 singles position, taking the opening set against Tilde Jagare before falling 6-1 in the second set and 10-6 in the deciding tiebreaker.

The Vikings return to action on January 31 at Puget Sound.
