After a dominant performance—which included a seven-inning no-hitter against Montana—Portland State's
Gracie Walters has been named the Big Sky Pitcher of the Week.
The Nampa, Idaho native and College of Southern Idaho transfer delivered a historic performance on Saturday, tossing just the second no-hitter by a Viking since 2012 in a 4-1 win over Montana in game two of the weekend series. She faced 24 batters across seven innings, walking only two while holding the Griz hitless. She delivered another stellar performance in the series finale on Sunday, giving up just a single hit over 4.1 innings as PSU clinched the series with a 6-2 win.
The redshirt junior threw 11.1 innings over the weekend, holding the Griz to a mere .031 batting average. She struck out four, allowed just one run, and finished the series with a 0.62 ERA.
Walters becomes the third Viking pitcher to earn Big Sky Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Walters and the Vikings now turn their attention to the final stretch of the regular season, heading to Northern Colorado for a three-game series starting Friday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. PT.
