Former Portland State Vikings basketball player Cameron Forte was named MVP of the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup over the weekend in Leon, Mexico. Forte led Team USA to the Gold Medal as the team's leading scorer with 34 points in the tournament, including eight in the final against Puerto Rico, a 21-15 win.

Forte, a 6-7 forward, averaged 6.8 points and 5.2 rebounds to lead the team in five games played. Team USA defeated Mexico and Cayman Islands in pool play, then marched past Argentina, Brazil and Puerto Rico for the championship.

Jase Coburn, played for the Vikings in 2015-16. He led the team in scoring (19.2), rebounding (9.3), field goal percentage (.580), double-doubles (12), dunks (30), and had the first triple-double in Portland State history while a Viking. Forte was named second team All-Big Sky Conference and a two-time Big Sky Player of the Week.Â

Coburn also coached Forte at McClintock High School in Arizona and Howard Junior College in Texas.
