Portland, OR – Northwest Indian College scored the first basket of the game. And it was all Vikings after that. Portland State defeated the Eagles in the Viking Pavilion lid-lifter, 122-74.

Portland State got an expected win and had a great time doing it. The Vikings had 11 dunks, 16 steals, 36 fast break points and shot .617 from the field on the night. The win moves PSU to 1-1 on the season. It also keeps the Vikings' home court winning streak alive at 12 in a row dating to last season.

Junior guard Keyon Kensie Jr. had the first double-double of the season by a Viking with 14 points and 12 rebounds in 23 minutes of action. Senior guard Jaylin Henderson scored 20 points on 8-11 from the field and added a career-high six steals. Brycen Long, also a senior guard, came off the bench to hit 5-8 three-pointers and score 15 points. Charles Chukwu, a junior forward, was a perfect 7-7 from the field, scoring 14 points in only 12 minutes.

Northwest Indian stayed close early, then the Vikings got hot. PSU created turnovers and got run outs, throwing down dunks and other easy hoops on the fast break. Midway through the first half the Vikings hit nine shots in a row in a 21-4 rally. Suddenly, their five-point lead was 22 points and it grew from there.

The Vikings went into halftime with a 57-31 lead. PSU had 11 steals, 22 fast break points and 10 dunks in the first half.Â

The second half was more of the same as Coach Jase Coburn spread the playing time around. PSU finished 50-81 from the field (.617) and 14-21 at the free throw line (.667). The Vikings out-rebounded the Eagles, 51-23, and forced 20 turnovers.

Point guard Tyasin Burns was a one-man team for Northwest Indian, scoring 27 points with eight assists and three rebounds.

Northwest Indian was 23-52 from the field (.442), but hit 6-10 three-pointers.

- Portland State started Keyon Kensie Jr., Tre-Vaughn Minott, Jaylin Henderson, Colt Ness and Alex Dupre.
- All 12 Vikings available to play logged between 12 and 23 minutes and they all scored in the game.
- PSU is 25-3 at home since the start of the 2023-24 season.
- The Vikings are 63-2 against lower division schools in 30 seasons as a Big Sky Conference and Division I member… the Vikings are also 73-16 in non-conference home games in the last 17 seasons.
- The Vikings go on the road next week playing at the University of San Francisco on Wednesday night. The next home game is Nov. 17 against Bakersfield of the Big West Conference.
