PORTLAND, Ore. — Fall core on the Park Blocks looks like: turtleneck sweaters, running through leaf piles, and attending volleyball matches at Viking Pavilion. That's it. That's the list. Fans can now make plans for the last of those items as the Portland State volleyball program announced its 2024 fall schedule Thursday.
Â
For the third straight season, the Vikings will begin their 2024 schedule with a home tournament. This year's tournament will see Cal, Nevada and San Francisco come to Viking Pavilion for matches on Aug. 30 to Sept. 1. The Vikings open the tournament against San Francisco at 6 p.m. on Aug. 30, then play Cal at 6 p.m. on Aug. 31, and Nevada at 1 p.m. on Sept. 1.
Â
Two road tournaments follow over the next two weekends as the Vikings travel to San Diego State, Sept. 5-7, and Grand Canyon University, Sept. 13-15. The first road weekend sees the Vikings face host San Diego State on the middle day of the tournament, Sept. 6, while the Vikings will also play Tulane on Sept. 5 and DePaul on Sep. 7. The Vikings will open the following weekend against host Grand Canyon on Sept. 13, before playing neutral-site matches against Pacific (Calif.) and Butler on Sept. 14 and 15, respectively.
Â
A split home-and-away weekend will then see the Vikings close out their non-conference schedule against in-state powerhouses Oregon and Oregon State. The Vikings host the Ducks at Viking Pavilion for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday, Sept. 18. They'll then face the Beavers on the road that Friday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m.
Â
The conference season opens the following weekend, starting with a split weekend at Idaho on Sept. 26 and a home match against Montana on Sept. 28. The Vikings have a single road match at Sacramento State on Oct. 4 the next weekend before they return home for three straight against Northern Colorado (Oct. 10), Northern Arizona (Oct. 12) and Sacramento State again (Oct. 18).
Â
The Vikings will close out the first half of the conference season at Idaho State and Weber State on Oct. 24 and 26, respectively.
Â
The second half of the schedule opens at home against Eastern Washington (Oct. 31) and Idaho (Nov. 2), before the Vikings hit the road for four straight at Northern Arizona (Nov. 7), Northern Colorado (Nov. 9), Montana State (Nov. 14) and Montana (Nov. 16).
Â
The regular season will then wrap up at home as the Vikings host Weber State and Idaho State on Nov. 21 and 23, respectively.
Â
Home match times within the conference season will see a shift this fall. While Thursday-night matches remain at 7 p.m., the Vikings will play at 5 p.m. on Saturdays during their conference schedule with two exceptions. The first exception will be when the Vikings face Northern Arizona at 2 p.m. on Oct. 12. The second exception will be for Senior Day on Nov. 23, when the Vikings host Idaho State at 7 p.m.
Â
The Big Sky tournament will run from Nov. 27-30 in Sacramento, Calif. Sacramento State earned the right to host the tournament as last season's regular-season champions.
Â
Season and single-match tickets will go on sale on July 1st. Any questions regarding tickets can be directed to Malik Thirdgill, Director of Ticket Sales and Service, at 503-725-6571.
