SACRAMENTO, Calif. -Â The Portland State men's tennis team fell 6-1 to Big Sky leader Sacramento State on Saturday at the Sac State Tennis Courts.
It was the fourth and final dual of the week for the Vikings as they dropped to 5-12 and 1-6 in conference action. The win marked the Hornets' fifth straight, improving their overall record to 13-5 and 5-1 in Big Sky action.
Sacramento State grabbed an early lead with a pair of convincing wins at lines one and two in doubles play. Simon Kuszynski and Andrin Zuellig trailed 4-3 at line three when their match went unfinished.
The Vikings pushed a trio of singles matches to third sets but only secured one win. The Hornets clinched the dual with consecutive victories at lines one, three and six.Â
Luka Jovanovic and Andrea Brignacca each won their first sets before their Hornet opponents battled back. Mate Voros outlasted Jovanovic at the two spot, earning a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 come-from-behind victory. Brignacca battled but fell in a similar fashion, succumbing to Adam Chodur at No. 4 with a score of 5-7, 6-0, 6-2.
Also playing to a deciding set was Hembo Mathiasen at line five. The senior was the lone Viking to walk away with a victory, picking up his second win of the week and fifth of the season, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3  over Jiri Novak.Â
Portland State faces a quick turnaround as it returns home to close out the regular season with a Monday afternoon dual against the University of Idaho. The match is slated for 10:00 a.m. at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. Â
