SPOKANE, Wash. — Dieumerci Migani scored three points for the Portland State men, placing sixth overall in the triple jump to lead the Vikings' track & field program on the final day of the Big Sky Indoor Championships.
 
Migani jumped 46-02.00 (14.07m) on his third attempt of the day at The Podium, moving him up to seventh all-time in the event at Portland State.
 
Migani's scoring mark left the Viking men with five points in the team race, after their distance medley relay placed seventh Friday night. The Viking women finished the meet with one point thanks to Alison Calvin-Stupfel placing eighth in the high jump Friday.
 
Laura Beghin gave the Viking women a scoring chance Saturday, as she won the first heat of the final of the women's mile in 5:03.15. Beghin passed Eastern Washington's Kaylin Sheley at the bell and then stretched her lead over the final lap to win by more than two seconds. Beghin's time didn't hold up after the second heat, however, as she finished 13th overall.
 
Abdi Ibrahim led three Viking men competing in the first heat of the final of the men's mile. Like Beghin, Ibrahim fell out of scoring position after the second heat of the final, but still set a seven-second personal best with his finish in 4:16.93.
 
Noah Meucci faced a similar dilemma in the men's shot put. He was fifth after the first flight concluded, but then got bumped down to 15th after the second flight and didn't make the final. Like Ibrahim, though, he set an overall personal best in his event, with his third-attempt mark of 45-06.25 (13.87m) representing a 16-inch improvement over his previous best. Meucci moved up to eighth all-time at PSU in the indoor men's shot put with that mark.
 
Saturday's conclusion of the Big Sky Indoor Championships also wraps the indoor season for the Portland State track & field program. The Vikings are scheduled to open the outdoor portion of their 2024 schedule next week at the Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker, March 1-2, in McMinnville, Ore.
