SEATTLE, Wash. — It was an Ab-di-lightftul weekend for the Portland State track & field team in Seattle this weekend.
Abdi Ibrahim and
Abdinajib Abade produced a top 10 mark and heat win, respectively, as the Vikings' lone representatives at the Husky Classic.
Â
Friday night, Ibrahim blew the doors off his 5k indoor best, finishing in 14:54.42 at Dempsey Indoor Facility. Ibrahim lowered his previous best indoors by 25 seconds, moving up to seventh all-time in the event in the process.
Â
Ibrahim now has top 10 marks in the indoor 3k (9th) and 5k (7th), as well as the outdoor 5k (7th).
Â
Abade, meanwhile, won his heat of the men's 800 meters going away Saturday. Third at the bell, Abade pushed into the lead down the back straightaway and only increased his lead from there. He finished in 1:57.24, which wasn't a personal best but gave him the win by close to half a second.
Â
More Vikings will be in action next weekend, as the program wraps its indoor regular season at the George Fox Indoor Meet #2 on Feb. 17 and the Portland Indoor Three on Feb. 18.
