HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Portland State women's soccer team conceded four goals in the second half of Friday's match against the University of St. Thomas, resulting in a 4-0 loss to open the weekend.
Friday's defeat marked PSU's third-straight loss as it dropped to 0-3-0 on the year. The Tommies improved to 2-1-0.
Despite 15 combined shots in the opening 45 minutes, it was a quiet first half as both teams headed to halftime with zeros on the board.
Just two minutes into the second half, Viking defender
Kalo Iongi was issued a red card for fouling on a UST goal-scoring opportunity. The Tommies capitalized on the penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute.
Using momentum to its advantage, St. Thomas stuck again two minutes later, extending its lead to 2-0 in the 49th minute. Following the goal, PSU finally settled in, keeping the Tommies' attack quiet for the next 30 minutes.
Creating a few more scoring opportunities down the stretch, the Tommies added to their lead with goals in the 72nd and 75th minutes to clinch the victory.

Elle Frazier and
Abi Hoffman fired shots on goal for the Vikings in the final minutes, but neither were able to find the net. Portland State ended with 12 shots, putting nine of those on target. UST recorded 18 shots, putting eight on goal.
Ocean Rideout led the Vikings with a team-high three shots.

Eden Millan played the full 90 minutes in goal for Portland State, tallying four saves in the contest.
The Vikings will shift their focus to Sunday, Aug. 27 as they prepare to take on Pacific (Ore.) in a 6 p.m. matchup at Hillsboro Stadium.
