HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Portland State women's tennis team opened play in Honolulu on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 4-0 match to Hawaii at the UH Tennis Complex. The Vikings fell to 7-9 overall while the 'Bows improved to 8-6 on the season with their fifth straight win.Â
Portland State's only victory of the day came courtesy of doubles pair Capu Sanoner and Masha Ponomareva, who improved to 7-0 on the season with a 6-2 victory over Rita Pinto and Klara Novakova at No. 1 doubles. The Rainbow Wahine secured the remaining two doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead.
Playing to a clinch, the 'Bows secured the win with three straight wins on courts 4, 5 and 6. Ponomareva, Nika Beukers and Elizabeth Strongina's matches were all recorded as unfinished.
The Vikings will turn their attention to Hawaii Pacific tomorrow (Thursday, March 30) for a noon PT matchup with the Sharks at the UH Tennis Complex.
