HONOLULU, Hawaii - Despite picking up two singles wins on Wednesday afternoon, the Portland State men's tennis team fell short, 4-2, against Hawaii Pacific at the Kailua Racquet Club in Honolulu. The Vikings fell to 6-10 overall, while the Sharks improved to 8-4.
The teams opted to skip the doubles portion, going straight to singles action. HPU opened with three wins at No. 2, 4 and 5. Viking sophomore Andrin Zuellig picked up his first win since Feb. 17 at No. 6 singles, defeating Cheng-Chieh Wang 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Also pulling off a three-set win was Jonas Hembo Mathiasen at the No. 3 spot as he topped Mile Matic in comeback fashion 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. HPU's Robin Sanz defeated Andrea Brignacca 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the final match of the day on court one.
The Vikings will close out their trip to Hawaii tomorrow (Thursday, March 30) in a 1 p.m. HT neutral site match against UC San Diego at the Kaikua Racquet Club.
