Five members of the Portland State Football team have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team for 2023.

Gianni Smith all received honors for their achievements in the classroom and on the field.

To qualify, a student-athlete must have completed at least one full year at their current institution, be a starter or important reserve, and have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale). All-District selections are now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on January 23.

Titialii, a starting center from Auburn, WA, is a Social Science major. He has been a fixture on the offensive line starting 28 games and playing in 32 games during his Viking career.

Freeman, from Aiea, HI, and Shufelt, from Hillsboro, were the Vikings' starting defensive ends this season. Freeman, who is currently in graduate school seeking his MBA, had 19 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and two forced fumbles before an injury ended his season in the ninth game. Shufelt, a Public Health Studies major, made 16 tackles, five tackles for loss and led the Vikings with 3.5 sacks.

Bennett, from Simi Valley, CA, is majoring in Business Administration: Marketing. He made 14 receptions for 169 yards this season. In his career, he has 111 catches for 1,291 yards.

Smith, a kicker from Oak Park, CA, is majoring in Psychology. He made 8-9 field goals this season and 42-44 extra points. For his career, Smith has made 18-23 field goals and 107-110 extra points.

Bennett and Smith had previously earned Academic All-Big Sky Conference honors.
