Another controlled scrimmage, another solid performance by the Viking defense.
 
For the second day in a row, the Viking defense looked good as the football program ran 33 live plays in practice. With the exception of two big plays from SO QB Dante Chachere it was another day for the D.
 
Chachere showed his speed on a read option play, breaking away for 70 yards. Late in practice he lofted a ball over the top to a streaking SO WR Nate Bennett down the right sideline. Bennett got behind the defense and went 70 yards as well.
 
Outside of Chachere's big run, the Viking run defense held the offense to 37 yards on 16 carries. Other than the completion to Bennett, the passing game managed only 43 yards on 8-14 completions.
 
On Wednesday, the defense made nine tackles for loss, including two sacks, in a run-heavy format. On Thursday, it made three tackles for loss in a pass-heavy format. It also had five tackles for no gain. JR LB Ian Crocker had a sack, while SR S Xavier Bell and SO LB Jaymason Willingham each had pass breakups. Willingham and Crocker were each in on four tackles.
 
Like Wednesday, the plays were not part of normal series' drives. And, they were merely a preliminary for Saturday's live 70-80-play scrimmage set for 10:30 a.m.
