Windy Huang and football player
Tyson Pauling will always be considered among Portland State Athletics' finest as they have been named Big Sky Conference Scholar Athletes of the Year for 2021-22.
The award goes to student-athletes at each Big Sky school that best represent the combination of performance and academics for their program. To be eligible, honorees need to have exhausted their athletic eligibility and/or be a member of the graduating class. They also need to have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0) scale, been a participant in a Big Sky-sponsored sport, and completed at least two (2) years of intercollegiate competition at the institution.
Huang just completed her Portland State playing career and academics. A four-time Academic All-Big Sky Conference honoree, Huang was also among the Vikings' scoring leaders throughout her career. She played 107 career rounds between 2017-22 and compiled a 76.95 scoring average. Both numbers rank eighth all-time in PSU history. Huang also holds the distinction of matching the school scoring record with a five-under par 67 back in 2018. She was the team scoring leader in 2021-22.
A native of Taipei, Taiwan, Huang earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Master of Science in Finance with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Pauling, who is the starting center on the Vikings' football team, has one season to play this fall. However, he has already completed his degree with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and will complete his Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy this fall. He has a goal of earning a Ph.D and having a career as a superintendent of schools.
Pauling started all 11 games at center in 2021 and was a leader up front as the Vikings had one of the top offenses in the Big Sky. He earned Academic All-Big Sky Conference honors.
