Vikings, Bengals Combine For 34 Runs Saturday as Vikings Take the Series

POCATELLO, Idaho – In the highest-scoring game in program history, the Portland State softball team outlasted Idaho State 19-15 on Saturday, clinching the series 2-1.

The Vikings improved to 26-16 overall and 10-5 in Big Sky play, while the Bengals dropped to 23-23 overall and 7-8 in conference action.

Portland State scored 16 of its runs across two innings. The Vikings opened the contest by producing eight runs on five hits in the top of the first. Idaho State was quick to recover, cutting into the Viking's lead with five runs in the home half of the first. An inning later, they took their first lead of the day at 10-8.

The Viking's offense exploded once again in the third. After loading the bases with no outs, they scored eight runs over seven plays to retake the lead at 16-10. Idaho State wasn't done yet, plating four in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the Viking's lead.

Logan Riggenbach added an insurance run for Portland State with an RBI single in the top of the fifth. Emily Johansen capped the scoring for PSU in the top of the seventh, knocking her fourth home run of the weekend to put the Vikings on top 19-14.

Loading the bases in the final frame, the Bengals threatened in their final at-bat, but Portland State's Olivia Grey held them to just a single run, securing the 19-15 win.

Six Vikings notched multi-hit games, while all nine starters recorded at least one RBI. Riggenbach led the way with an impressive 4-for-6 performance at the plate and six RBIs.

Grey earned the win in the circle, improving to 17-6 on the season.

The Vikings will close out their regular season next weekend with a three-game series against Weber State at Gordon Faber Field 4 (May 6-7).
