BEAVERTON, Ore. – The Portland State men's tennis team finished its season at home on Saturday, falling 7-0 to Idaho at the Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center.
The Vikings ended the year at 3-14 overall and 1-7 in conference action. Improving to 11-10 overall and 7-1 in conference play, the Vandals secured at least a share of the regular-season title.
The Vikings fielded a five-man lineup for the sixth consecutive dual, forcing them to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match. The Vandals secured the opening point with a 6-4 win on court two. At the top spot, Oliver Richards and Nils Plutat defeated Francisco Bascon and Bruno Casino 6-3 to end the season on a high note.
Idaho rolled to three-straight singles wins to clinch the dual. Battling on court three, Richards pushed Casino to a third set but couldn't pull off the win, falling 0-6, 6-3, 6-1. Tommy Hsu was eager for a victory at No. 2, but was edged by Francisco Gay, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 10-5 to end the day.Â
The Vikings honored senior Otto Holtari following the match. With a career singles record of 23-35, Holtari finished second all-time in victories at No. 5 singles (10).
