Vikings Fall to No. 19 Oregon, 5-2

EUGENE, Ore. – The Portland State softball team took a break from Big Sky action on Tuesday, falling 5-2 to the 19th ranked Oregon Ducks under the lights at Jane Sanders Stadium.

The loss snapped the Viking's five-game winning streak as they fell to 24-15 overall. The Ducks improved to 26-13 on the year.

Paetynn Lopez gave the Vikings an early boost with a leadoff triple down the right-field line in the top of the second, but the Ducks eventually broke out of the jam, stranding Lopez at third.

UO took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third before tacking on another in the fourth. They capped off their scoring with a pair of runs in the fifth to go ahead 5-0.

Logan Riggenbach slammed a leadoff double for PSU to start the final frame before scoring on a wild pitch. Natalia Martinez scored the Viking's final run of the night with a solo shot over the left-field fence. The Ducks shut down the next two batters to secure the 5-2 victory.

Olivia Grey held Oregon to just four hits and three earned runs as she took the loss in the circle for Portland State. Four different Vikings recorded a hit in the contest.

PSU will rest over the weekend before returning to action on Tuesday, April 26, against Warner Pacific at Gordon Faber Field 4.
