BOISE, Idaho – The Portland State women's tennis team dropped its opening match of the weekend 6-1 to Boise State on Saturday.
The Vikings fell to 4-7 while the Broncos improved to 2-1.
Portland State dropped the opening point despite a 6-4 win from
Jacinta Milenkoski and
Makoto Ohara at the No. 3 spot.
Capu Sanoner and
Nika Beukers lost just their second match of the season at No. 1, losing 7-5 to Nicole Discenza and Joana Baptista.
Mariajose Hernandez Coronado clinched the Viking's only singles win of the day at the six spot. Tied at one set apiece, Hernandez Coronado battled to a 13-11 tiebreak win over Bhakti Shah en route to her fifth singles victory of the season.
Also pushing her opponent to a third set was Beukers at No. 2. After dropping the first set to Baptista, the freshman delivered a 6-1 win before eventually falling 6-3, 1-6, 6-1.
