SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Portland State women's tennis team dropped its final dual of the week to Sacramento State, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Vikings are now 7-10 overall and 2-4 in Big Sky action, while Sacramento State is 3-12 and 1-2 in conference play.
Due to the absence of Capu Sanoner, the Viking's doubles lineup looked different from their previous five conference matches. Playing at the No. 1 spot for the second time this week, Emily Rees and Mariajose Hernandez Coronado improved to 11-2 as a duo with a 6-3 win over Megan Tagaloa and Weronika Ejsmont. The Hornets won the remaining two matches to clinch the opening point.
Portland State battled in singles play, pushing four of the six matches to a third set. After a first-set victory, Nika Beukers couldn't hang on at the No. 2 position, falling 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Hernandez Coronado battled back to tie her match at one set apiece at line five before eventually falling 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. Makoto Ohara was edged by Tagaloa on court four despite a first-set victory (6-4, 5-7, 7-10), while Rees pushed Paige Alter to the limit at No. 3, before retiring at 6-1, 4-6, 5-2.
The Vikings will return to action at the Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center on April 10 against Eastern Washington (11 a.m.).
