Vikings Post Third-Straight Shutout With Run Rule Victory Over Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State softball team rolled past Warner Pacific 8-0 on Wednesday at Erv Lind Stadium in its final game before the conference opener.

It was an exhibition contest for the Knights, as they remained 2-18 on the season. The Vikings improved to 16-10 overall.

PSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI by Logan Riggenbach and a wild pitch by WPU that scored Emily Johansen.

The Knights threatened in their half of the inning, loading the bases with two outs before Paetynn Lopez picked off the runner at first to end the inning.

The score remained at 2-0 until the top of the fourth. Maddie Thompson began the scoring spree for Portland State, singling home Alexa Cepeda before a bases-loaded walk and a fielders choice RBI from Johansen extended the lead to five. Riggenbach capped off the Vikings' big inning with a three-run shot to the opposite field to secure an 8-0 lead.

A scoring opportunity for Warner Pacific presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, but Allicitie Frost closed the door before damage was done. Frost did the same in the bottom of the fifth, shutting down the Knight's offense to lock in the run-rule victory.

Olivia Grey improved to 12-1 on the season with the victory in the circle, tossing the first two innings before Annie Lemos and Frost finished things off. The Viking's offense also faced three different pitchers, tallying seven hits in the contest. Riggenbach and Grace Johnson led the way with two hits each.

This weekend, the Vikings will open up Big Sky play against Montana with a doubleheader on Saturday (12 and 2:30 p.m. PT), followed by a single game on Sunday (11 a.m. PT).
