TEMPE, Ariz. – The Portland State softball team dropped its final game at the Littlewood Classic on Sunday, 6-2 to Illinois State.
The Vikings finished the weekend 2-3, moving to 6-4 on the season.
The Redbirds jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning before adding to their lead in the third. A two-run home run in the fifth put the Redbirds on top 6-0.Â
Paetynn Lopez got the Vikings on the board with a solo home run in the sixth to cut into the Redbird's lead before
Maddie Thompson scored
Natalia Martinez to get the PSU within four at 6-2. The Vikings were unable to get on the board in the final inning as the Redbirds clinched the 6-2 win.
Despite the loss, the Vikings out-hit Illinois State 8-7.
Allicitie Frost got the start on the rubber for the Vikings, falling to 2-2 on the season.
Emily Johansen and
Alexa Cepeda each tallied a team-high two hits while four other Vikings got at least one.
Next weekend, Feb. 25-27, the Vikings will return to action at the Mardi Gras Mambo in Youngsville, LA.
