Four members of the Portland State Football team have earned All-Big Sky Conference honors for the 2022 season, with four others earning honorable mention All-Big Sky, in balloting by league coaches.
The Big Sky released the All-Conference teams today and they included Vikings' senior center Tyson Pauling on the first team, senior wide receiver Beau Kelly on the second team, and senior defensive tackle EJ Ane and senior defensive back Xavier Bell on the third team. Earning honorable mention were senior wide receiver Mataio Talalemotu, senior tight end Anthony Rodriguez, senior defensive end VJ Malo and senior all-purpose athlete Emmanuel Daigbe.
Pauling, a 6-5, 295-pound center from Victorville, CA, has been a full-time starter on the offensive line for the past two seasons. He made 27 career starts, including his last 23 games in a row. Also a team captain, Pauling was an anchor on the line, for the team as a whole and a four-year letterwinner.
Kelly, a 5-9, 170-pound receiver from Scottsdale, AZ, led the Vikings in receiving yards this season with 654 on 41 receptions. He had five touchdowns and 117 additional all-purpose yards. Kelly completes his career as one of the top receivers in school history with 156 receptions (4th all-time), 2,288 yards (5th), 18 touchdowns (t7th) and 292 punt return yards (7th). A four-year letterwinner and team captain, Kelly started 42 career games and the last 35 in a row. He was named second team All-Big Sky for the second year in a row.
Ane, a 6-2, 275-pound tackle from Killeen, TX, transferred to Portland State from San Jose State for his senior season in 2022. Ane was a big addition, starting all 11 games and ranking fifth on the team with 42 tackles. Ane led the Vikings with nine tackles for loss, seven sacks and two fumble recoveries.
Bell, a 6-2, 200-pound safety from Long Beach, CA, was a two-year starter and letterwinner for the Vikings. This season, he led the team with 56 tackles, had six tackles for loss, one sack, an interception, a forced fumble and three pass breakups. In two seasons, Bell had 106 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions and 10 tackles for loss.
Vikings earning Honorable Mention All-Big Sky include: senior wide receiver Mataio Talalemotu (27 receptions, 482 yards, 8 touchdowns, 585 all-purpose yards, 10 touchdowns total in nine games); senior tight end Anthony Rodriguez (2 receptions, 17 yards, 3 rushes, 14 yards); senior defensive end VJ Malo (18 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble in 8 games); senior wide receiver/all-purpose Emmanuel Daigbe (13 receptions, 147 yards, 31 rushes, 183 yards, 2 tackles on special teams in 7 games).
