Vikings' Season Comes to an End in Big Sky Quarterfinals

GREELEY, Colo. – The Portland State women's soccer team was eliminated from the Big Sky tournament on Wednesday, falling 3-0 to Montana in a quarterfinal matchup at Jackson Stadium.

The third-seeded Vikings finished the season 5-8-5 overall while the sixth-seeded Grizzlies, who are now 7-6-6 on the year, advanced to the Big Sky semifinals this Friday.

The teams traded possession for the majority of the opening 28 minutes. Montana broke through in the 29th minute as Sydney Haustein netted their first goal of the day. Just before halftime, the Grizzlies struck again, adding to their lead with a goal from Molly Massman. Montana maintained control after the break, taking a 3-0 lead on a header from Maysa Walters in the 47th minute.

The Vikings gave themselves a chance in the final 43 minutes of play, holding UM scoreless for the remainder of the contest. The Vikings' attack fired off ten shots in the half but came away empty-handed.

In addition to earning the only corner kick of the afternoon, Portland State out-shot the Grizzlies 16-15. Elle Frazier led the attack with four shot attempts, putting two on goal.
