HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Portland State women's soccer team earned its first come-from-behind victory of the season on Friday, responding to an early deficit with back-to-back goals to defeat Idaho State 2-1 at Hillsboro Stadium.
Through four matches, the Vikings are undefeated in conference play for the first time since 2013 as they improved to 4-5-4 overall and 3-0-1 in Big Sky action. The Bengals fell to 1-9-2 and 0-4 in conference play.
All three goals were scored in the opening 30 minutes of action. The Bengals scored quickly, taking a 1-0 lead when Meagan Tamashiro buried a floater in the top right corner of the net in the 10th minute. The Vikings, who entered the match with a 0-5-2 record when giving up the first goal of the contest, responded 12 minutes later.
Raniyah Burton fought off two Bengal defenders in the box to score the equalizer in the 22nd minute. Taking advantage of the momentum shift,
Ocean Rideout came through with the go-ahead goal in the 29th minute, netting a perfectly executed feed from CeCe Jenkins.Â
Sidney O'billovich didn't budge in the final 45 minutes, keeping the score at 2-1 despite three shots and four corner kicks by the Bengals.
The Vikings tallied 17 shots in the match, 12 of those coming in the second half. The defense held the Bengals to just seven shots on the day. O'billovich claimed her third Big Sky win of the year, recording four saves in goal for PSU. The Vikings put nine of 17 shots on goal as
Abi Hoffman led the way with four attempts.
The Vikings will host Weber State on Senior Day at Hillsboro Stadium this Sunday, Oct. 9 (1:05 p.m.).Â
