Sixth-Ranked Weber State Takes Down Vikings At Home, 42-7

Hillsboro, OR – The sixth-ranked Weber State Wildcats showed why they are the best road football team in the FCS with a 42-7 victory over Portland State at Hillsboro Stadium.

The Wildcats won their eighth game in a row on the road - the longest such streak in the nation - and improved to 6-0 overall this season, 3-0 in the Big Sky Conference. The Vikings dropped to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in the Big Sky.

Weber State flexed its muscles both offensively and defensively from the very start. The Wildcats scored on their first two possessions on rapidly-paced drives. They scored on series of 63 and 90 yards and led 14-0 nine minutes into the game.

The Viking offense was unable to get going against the stingy Wildcats. WSU came into the game only allowing 11 points per contest and held the Vikings scoreless until the fourth quarter.

By halftime, the Wildcats had outgained the Vikings, 292-116, and led 21-0. PSU's deepest drive was to just the 44 yard-line of Weber State on the final possession before halftime.

Little changed in the second half for PSU. The Wildcats tacked on two TDs in the third quarter and two more in the fourth.

Portland State finally had a successful drive in the fourth quarter. PSU went 68 yards in eight plays. Quarterback Dante Chachere found wide receiver Mataio Talalemotu on a 12-yard touchdown pass. That trimmed the Wildcat' lead to 35-7. A late score by Weber State ended the game at 42-7.

Chachere was challenged by a Weber State blitz that got to him four times for sacks, and an extremely talented defensive backfield that picked off one of his passes. Chachere was 18-29 passing for 167 yards and one touchdown.

Nate Bennett caught nine passes for 56 yards. Beau Kelly had four grabs for 60 yards.

PSU's run game was, for the most part, stifled getting only 69 yards on 36 carries.

In the end, Weber State out-gained the Vikings 553-236 for the game.

Quarterback Bronson Barron was 21-31 for 274 yards three touchdowns and one interception. He found nine different receivers in the game. Six different Wildcats had rushing yards, including a team-high 81 on nine carries from Dontae McMillan.

Linebacker Isaiah Henry led the Vikings with seven tackles. Defensive tackle EJ Ane and roverback David Joseph each made six stops.
