Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Vikings Edged By Ducks 1-0

PORTLAND – The Portland State women's soccer team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon, falling to Oregon 1-0 at Hillsboro Stadium.

Portland State dropped to 2-5-0 on the year while UO improved its overall record to 5-0-3.

It was a quiet first half as neither team was able to find the goal. PSU held their own against seven corner kicks and seven shots from the Ducks throughout the opening 45 minutes. Chloe Huling and Raniyah Burton were the only Vikings to record a shot in the opening half, both doing so in the first seven minutes of the match.

The UO offense came out firing in the second half. Viking goalkeeper Sidney O'billovich was able to stunt their efforts, fending off a trio of shots early on to keep the score tied at zeros until the 72nd minute.

The Ducks finally found what they needed with less than 18 minutes remaining on the clock. Oregon's Zoe Hasenauer squeezed a penalty kick into the lower-left corner of the net past an out-stretched O'billovich to give the Ducks a 1-0 advantage.

In search of the equalizer, Portland State's attack tested UO down the stretch, resulting in three corner kicks for the Vikings. Delivering two shots in the final five minutes, PSU watched both attempts fall into the hands of UO goalkeeper Leah Freeman as the Ducks secured the 1-0 victory.

In just her second start of the season, O'billovich tallied a career-high nine saves on the afternoon. PSU totaled just four shots in the contest, two of those coming from Burton.

The Vikings will begin Big Sky action next Sunday (Sep. 26) when they host Sacramento State at Hillsboro Stadium (1 PM).
