The Portland State Vikings Football Program will open a long-awaited 2021 football season this Friday at Stott Community Field. PSU will begin the month-long preparation for the start of the season and the opener at Hawai'i on Sept. 4.
The Vikings will practice mornings throughout the month of August. Included will be a four-day trip to Camp Rilea Training Center on the Oregon Coast, just like the preseason of 2019, with practices scheduled in Warrenton, OR. Camp Rilea, an Armed Forces Training Center, is located on the Oregon coast, approximately 88 miles from campus.
Portland State last played a full season in 2019. The Vikings, along with four other Big Sky schools, then opted out of the shortened spring 2021 football season due to a lack of preparation time based on the COVID-19 pandemic. The Vikings did eventually get to have a spring practice schedule, and competed in one non-conference game at Montana.
Head Coach Bruce Barnum will welcome back 35 letterwinners and 13 starters from the 2019 season. PSU started that year 5-3 and 3-1 in the Big Sky before losing the final four games, three of which were to NCAA playoff teams.
PSU will have TWO full recruiting classes from 2020 and 2021 that will be competing in their inaugural season on the Park Blocks.
