SHERWOOD, Ore. — A perfect track season may mean different things to different people.
Rashid Muse, though, definitely had a perfect season. The freshman ran five 800-meter races for the Vikings in 2021, and set a new personal best all five times.
Â
Muse closed his season Sunday with his latest personal best, finishing in 1:57.21 at the Portland Distance Carnival at Sherwood High School. Muse's time Sunday completed a 10-second improvement from his season opener at the NW Distance Jamboree six weeks earlier on April 3. Muse ran 2:07.22 at the NW Distance Jamboree, but cracked two minutes just four weeks later at the OSU High Performance Meet, where he set his previous personal best at 1:57.49.
Â
Jack Rubalcave also set a personal best in his final race of the season, finishing the men's 1,500 meters in 4:08.94.
Kelly Shedd finished just off his own personal best in the 1,500 while running in 4:03.34 Sunday. That's just a half-second slower than the personal best he set at 4:02.75 at the Lewis & Clark Invite earlier this season.
Â
Sophie Jones ran on the women's side of the 1,500 meters Sunday, cracking five minutes for the second time this season with her time of 4:57.07.
Zach Grams and
Erik Solano ran for the Vikings in the men's 5,000 meters, finishing in 16:17.63 and 16:25.73, respectively.
Â
The Vikings will next compete at the NCAA West Prelims, which gets underway on May 26 at College Station, Texas.
