PHOENIX - The Portland State men's tennis team closed out its 2021 season on Saturday, dropping a 4-0 decision to No. 1 seed Northern Arizona in the Big Sky semifinals at the Phoenix Tennis Center.

The Vikings (No. 2 seed) fell behind early after NAU took charge in doubles action. Bryan Husin and Nikola Dimitrijevic dropped a 6-1 match at line three before Matteo Fortini and Tommy Edwards were defeated in the top spot 6-3 to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead.

Portland State continued to battle in singles action but was unable to come out with any victories. Northern Arizona's Chris Steele locked in the 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tommy Hsu at No. 4 before Nils Plutat was defeated on court five by his Lumberjack opponent 6-0, 6-3.

Needing just one more point to clinch the victory, NAU's Eban-Straker Meads battled against Fortini on court one and managed to pull off the final win of the day 6-1, 7-5 leaving the rest of the matches unfinished.

The Vikings ended the season with a 7-10 overall record while the Lumberjacks improved to 7-8 on the year.
