Maricopa, AZ – Freshman Franca Polla continues to impress in her first season as a Viking. The Sunset (Portland, OR) High School product shot an opening-round 71 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic and followed it up with a second-round 75 on Monday.
 
At 146, Polla is tied for 13^th in a strong field of 120 players. The Vikings are 14^th among 20 teams at the Cowgirl Classic, played at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course.
 
Grand Canyon University leads the tournament after 36 holes with 285-286=571. South Dakota State is three shots back at 290-284=574. Portland State shot matching 306s for a 612 total.
 
Britney Shin of CSU Fullerton has the individual lead, posting 67-71=138.
 
Polla posted her second under-par round of the season with the opening 71. She had five birdies and was tied for sixth in the field of 120 golfers.
 
Senior Jasmine Cabajar set a new Portland State record for rounds played in a career. With 36 holes on Monday, Cabajar has now played 123 career rounds at PSU, passing former record-holder Britney Yada (122). With 119 career rounds played, Valerie Hernandez, also a senior, now ranks fourth all-time.
Hernandez is tied for 36th in the tournament after an improved second round. She shot 78-72=150.
Cabajar shot 77-76=153 and is tied for 60^th overall.
Mariana Garcia Rosette, playing as an individual, opened with a 78 in the morning round. The Viking freshman made three straight birdies at one point and a season-best four in the round. The 78 was her best round so far as a Viking. She is tied for 94^th at 78-83=161.
Redshirt freshman Katie Harris carded 80-83=163, and junior McKenna Maser shot 87-84=171.
