KANEOHE, Hawai'i – Competing short-handed for the fourth consecutive dual, the Portland State women's tennis team battled against Hawaii Pacific (2-1) on Monday before dropping a 4-2 decision.

The Vikings are now 5-8 overall while they remain a perfect 2-0 in Big Sky action.

The Vikings entered doubles action just two teams deep due to an injury forfeit at the No. 3 spot. Despite being short-handed The 5-man Portland State roster was just a few games away from clinching the opening point. At line No. 1, Viking freshman Capu Sanoner earned her tenth doubles win of the season as she paired up with Ashley Ramirez to earn a 6-4 victory. Emily Rees and Lotti Meszaros were barely edged out 6-4 by their Shark opponents at No. 2 giving HPU the 1-0 advantage.

Sanoner and Rees each earned victories for the Vikings in singles action. Sanoner defeated her HPU opponent 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-3 while Rees clinched her seventh victory of the season securing a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot. After coming back from a 5-1 deficit in the third set, Ramirez's match was left unfinished at 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 5-5.

Hawai'i Pacific added wins at No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 (forfeit) on their way to a 4-2 victory.
