Anthony Adams Earns First FCS Preseason All-America Nod

Portland State defensive back Anthony Adams has been selected to what should be the first of several preseason All-America teams today when he was named first team FCS Preseason All-America by Hero Sports.

Adams, a 6-foot, 185-pounder from Newberg, will be a junior for the Vikings in 2020. He led the nation in passes defended in 2019 (24). His five interceptions and 19 pass breakups led the Big Sky Conference in each category. Adams ranked 13th in the nation in interceptions. He also had 56 tackles, two tackles for loss and blocked a kick on special teams. Adams broke the Portland State school record for pass breakups in a season (previously 15).

Adams was named first team All-American by the Associated Press, STATS, the Walter Camp Foundation and Athlon Sports in 2019. He was also a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, honoring the top defensive player in the nation. Other kudos included Hero Sports Sophomore All-American, first team All-Big Sky Conference and Academic All-Big Sky Conference.

His 2019 first team All-American honors made Adams PSU's first first-team All-American since 2015 when another Viking safety, Patrick Onwuasor (now of the New York Jets), also won the honor.

Adams now has 26 PBUs in his two seasons on the Park Blocks and already ranks sixth for a career. He is on pace to break the school career record (33). Overall, he has 104 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, 26 pass breakups and a fumble recovery in 23 career games.
