Portland State Football had two former players sign free agent contracts with NFL teams following the 2020 Draft this past weekend. Tight end Charlie Taumoepeau has signed with the Dallas Cowboys, while running back Sirgeo Hoffman has signed with the Arizona Cardinals.
Taumoepeau was a two-time All-American tight end for the Vikings. He completed his career in 2020 with 117 receptions, 1,876 yards and 11 touchdowns. Taumoepeau was twice named first team All-Big Sky Conference and once a second-teamer. A native of Federal Way, WA, Taumoepeau is 6-2, 245 pounds.
Hoffman was the Vikings' leading rusher in 2019. In 10 games, he rushed 143 times for 769 yards and eight touchdowns. Hoffman's marquee game was a 221-yard, two-touchdown performance in a win at Northern Colorado. From Gresham (OR) High School, Hoffman is a 6-foot, 215 pounder.
Those two will compete to earn spots in the National Football League. Currently, three former Portland State players dot NFL rosters, including long snapper Kameron Canaday (Pittsburgh), Patrick Onwuasor (New York Jets) and cornerback Donovan Olumba (Cleveland).
