Vikings Fall in Road Dual at Montana, 6-1

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Portland State men's tennis team dropped its second straight Big Sky dual, falling to Montana 6-1 at the Peak Racquet Club on Sunday.
 
The Vikings move to 4-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference play while the Grizzlies improve to 8-3, 2-0 in the BSC.
 
Montana started the day with two wins in doubles, winning at No. 2 with a score of 6-2, before claiming the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court three. Tommy Edwards and Sam Roberts held a lead at 5-3 at No. 1 before the match was called.
 
The Grizzlies took a 2-0 lead in singles play as Oisin Shaffrey held off Nikola Dimitrijevic at No. 3, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. They added to their lead with a win on court two, defeating Edwards 6-4, 6-4.
 
Matteo Fortini extended his winning streak to six in singles play, winning the first set 7-5 before bouncing back from a 6-4 loss to win the match 6-1.
 
Montana clinched the match with a win at No. 4 as Ed Pudney held off Sam Roberts in the set two tiebreaker, winning 6-3, 7-6.
 
The Grizzlies finished off the match with two more victories, winning at the fifth and sixth spots 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) and 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 respectively.
 
Portland State returns home next weekend for two matches as the Vikings host Weber State at the Vancouver Tennis Center on Friday, Mar. 13 and Idaho State on the following Sunday.
