PORTLAND – The Portland State men's tennis team put together its most complete performance on Saturday as the Vikings swept Lewis & Clark 7-0 at the Tennis Dome for their second straight win.
 
The Vikings improve to 2-3 on the season, putting together a win streak a week before beginning Big Sky Conference play begins.

"The guys practiced hard all week and it showed today in our results," said Head Coach Vetu Mam. "Having Matteo back in our lineup makes us a tough team to face even though Tommy has done extremely well stepping up and taking the lead while Matteo is slowly getting back into tip-top shape."

Tommy Edwards and Sam Roberts got things going in doubles, winning the first match of the day 6-3. Matteo Fortini and Majeed Bukhari won the doubles point for PSU, winning their match 7-5.
 
The Pioneers earned one victory on the day, winning the third doubles match 6-3 over Otto Holtari and Nikola Dimitrijevic.
 
In singles play, Fortini finished up first, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. Following him was Dimitrijevic with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 and Roberts winning 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4.

"We couldn't have pulled off the W without Nikola, Sam, Otto, and Majeed all doing their part to seek wins at their positions," added Mam. "We have our first conference match against NAU next week and we've had some tough pre-season matches leading up to it. We've seen it all at this point, so we have no excuses going into next weekend. We're gonna practice hard all week and whatever the outcome may be, we'll walk away with our heads up."
 
Edwards improved his singles win streak to three matches, winning 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the top spot to improve his season record to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in dual play.
 
The Vikings completed the sweep as Bukhari played a tough match at the No. 5 spot, opening with a 6-3 win in set one before holding on to 10-8 win in set three. Holtari ended the day with a win in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3 at the sixth spot.
 
Portland State opens Big Sky play next week as the Vikings return to the Vancouver Tennis Center, hosting Northern Arizona on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m.
