SEATTLE, Wash. – A late goal by Seattle University gave the Redhawks a 1-0 victory over the Portland State women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Championship Field.
Both squads played to an even 0-0 tie in the first half with Seattle totaling eight shot attempts while Portland State managed two shots in the period. The Redhawks landed two shots on goal in the half, both ending in saves by PSU's
Enya Hernandez.
The Vikings found an early opportunity after a foul just outside the box gave them a free kick that was headed out by a Seattle defender.
Rilee Castilla led the Portland State offense with two shots on the day, her first coming in the 20
th minute, landing just to the right of the goal post.
Seattle nearly scored midway through the first half, sneaking the ball past the keeper before
Liv Lagerquist kept the game even, clearing the ball before it crossed the goal line.
The Redhawks totaled 22 shots in all with eight landing on target while Portland State finished with six shots, three on goal.
In the second half, Castilla had another chance to break the tie with a shot that nearly found the back of the net but bounced off the crossbar to keep the score even.

th minute, Seattle scored the game-winner after collecting the rebound from a diving save by Hernandez and knocking the ball in from five yards out.
Hernandez played a full 90 minutes in goal, collecting seven saves in all in her first career start as a Viking.
Portland State moves to 0-3-0 on the season while Seattle improves to 2-1-1 overall.
The Vikings will return home next weekend as they host UC Davis and the University of New Mexico beginning on Friday, Sept. 6.
