Vikings Finish Road Trip with Loss Against Weber State

A rocky start to the season continued on Saturday for the Portland State women's tennis team. The Vikings fell 6-1 to Weber State on the second day of back-to-back matches to fall to 0-5 on the year.

Alli Valk picked up the lone point for the Vikings with a big win at No. 5 singles. She is back playing in her normal position and made the most of it against the Wildcats, winning 6-2, 6-4 against Morgan Dickason.

It is the first win of the season for Valk, who levels her record while playing at No. 4 to 1-1. She is the fifth Viking to win a match still early on in the season.

Weber State prevailed in the other matches, but not without a good fight from the Vikings. Portland State won at least three games in eight of the 10 sets they lost in, coming close to taking a couple more points away from the hosts.

Jacinta Milenkoski and Lotti Meszaros, playing on courts one and two, each lost by identical 6-3, 6-3 scores. Eszter Zador also lost 6-3, 6-3, dropping her first match of the season after a 3-0 start.

Taylor Rees had an incredibly tight match at No. 6, falling in a second set tiebreak. She lost the match 6-3, 7-6 (6).

The Vikings are still returning to full health and adjusting to lineup changes, but with everyone back for the first weekend of the year they are expected to make significant improvements as the year continues.

They will look to break the losing streak at home next weekend, taking on Lewis-Clark State at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The match will be played at St. John's Racquet Center.
