The Portland State Men's Basketball program has signed two student-athletes during the early signing period for the 2020-21 academic year. Head Coach
Barret Peery has announced the additions of Paris Dawson and Kiimani Holt to the Viking team.
Holt is from Phoenix and plays basketball for PHHoenix Prep this academic year. He spent the past three seasons at Rancho Solano Prep. A 6-4 guard, his wing skills suit the Viking program. He averaged 19.0 points and 4.9 rebounds as a junior at Rancho Solano. As a freshman, Holt averaged 17.0 points and 6.8 rebounds, and as a sophomore he averaged 13.7 points and 4.9 rebounds. All three seasons he has shot over 50% from the field.
"Kiimani is a big, strong wing, very athletic and can guard multiple positions," Peery said. "He has had a couple of really strong years as we have watched and recruited him. We know him very well and having gone through the recruiting process with him for a long time we were happy to get him. He fits our program very well."
Dawson, a 6-foot guard from Corona, CA, attends Centennial High School. Last year, he averaged 12.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists for the 27-6 Huskies team. Dawson shot .435 from the field, .429 from three-point range and .861 at the free throw line. His sophomore statistics were comparable at 12.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Dawson shot .420 from the field and .827 at the free throw line.
"Paris is a combo guard. He is very high energy and can play both guard positions. He comes from a fantastic program in southern California. He can really shoot as well as handle it. He has incredible energy and attitude and brings a great passion for the game," said Peery.
"Both of these young men come from great high school programs as well as AAU programs that we have recruited a lot over the years," said Peery.
Dawson has played in the Compton Magic AAU program, while Holt plays with the Arizona Powerhouse AAU team. A current Viking, redshirt freshman
Trey Wood, also played for Arizona Powerhouse.
The Portland State season is just underway. The Vikings are 1-1 going into a Friday night game at Hawai'i.
