Portland State Mourns Passing Of Hall Of Fame Quarterback Chris Crawford

Chris Crawford was an individual that everyone always liked to be around. And Portland State Athletics was fortunate to have Crawford around for a Hall of Fame collegiate football career. Sadly, Crawford passed away on Saturday from complications from leukemia at the age of 51.

Crawford's Hall of Fame career at Portland State spanned 1985-88. As the Vikings' quarterback he led the '87 and '88 teams to the NCAA II National Championship games. Crawford was the 1987 Western Football Conference Offensive Most Valuable Player. He was named an NCAA II All-American in 1988.

During his career Crawford was a three-time All-Conference selection. He passed for 7,258 yards - third in school history - and 48 touchdowns. Most significant though, in his final two seasons as starting quarterback, the Vikings were 22-5-2, going a perfect 6-0 each season in the WFC, and making two trips to the title game. Crawford was inducted into the Portland State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998.

Following his time at Portland State, Crawford had a highly successful career working at Nike, and raised two children; son Carson and daughter Payton.

A memorial service for Chris Crawford will take place on Friday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Viking Pavilion on the Portland State campus. It is open to the public.
