PORTLAND, Ore. —
What's the best way to put a loss behind you? Get back out there and get a win. That's what the Portland State men's tennis team did Saturday night, albeit via an unusually lightning-quick turnaround, as the Vikings beat Linfield 7-0 a few hours after losing to cross-town rival University of Portland, 7-0, earlier in the day.

Senior Nathan Boniel led the way for the Vikings (3-2) from the top of the singles lineup, as he did not drop a game in either singles or doubles against the Wildcats (0-1). Boniel beat Linfield's Luis Rojas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and beat Rojas and Cameron Ventura 6-0 at No. 3 doubles with partner Gabe Souza.

Boniel has now twice gone a full dual without dropping a game this season, as he also went unbeaten in singles and doubles in the Vikings' 7-0 win over Puget Sound – a conference school of Linfield's – last weekend.

Junior newcomer Avery West beat Boniel off the court in singles, however, as he also didn't drop a game while beating Linfield's J.T. Barcellos 6-0, 6-0 at line three.

West and doubles partner Tommy Edwards also won their second match of the day at No. 1 doubles. West and Edwards beat Linfield's Ben McNair and Nathan Saragoza 6-2 at line one, after upsetting UP's No. 1 team earlier in the day. West and Edwards have now won four of their five doubles matches together this season, with their lone loss coming to Oregon's No. 1 team at the beginning of the season.

Edwards won his match at No. 2 singles, as well, beating Saragoza 6-3, 6-1.

The Vikings' young players followed with wins in the bottom half of the singles lineup, as they only dropped six games combined at lines four through six.

Roberts was the first player off the court for the Vikings in the bottom half of the lineup, as he dropped the first game of his match against McNair but then won 12 games in a row for a 6-1, 6-0 win at line four.

Majeed Bukhari followed Roberts off the court with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ventura at line six, while Otto Holtari played a perfect second set while beating Linfield's Eric Rutherford 6-3, 6-0 at line five.

Roberts and Holtari also won their match together at No. 2 doubles, beating Barcellos and Rutherford, 6-2.

The Vikings head into Big Sky play next Saturday with a home match against Idaho State, Feb. 10, at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash. First serve between the Vikings and Bengals will be at 2 p.m. (PT).
