SEATTLE, Wash. — The Portland State women's tennis team got a peek at one of the nation's elite teams Sunday, as the Vikings lost 7-0 to the 32nd-ranked University of Washington at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
Â
The Huskies (8-5) swept the Vikings (0-7) in all matches Sunday, and won in straight sets in all six singles matches.
Â
The Vikings'
Gerda Upeniece played a close first set against UW's Kenadi Hance at line four, as she took Hance to a first-set tiebreaker. Hance pulled out the breaker, however, and then cruised past Upeniece in the second set, 6-1.
Â
Eszter Zador and
Ashley Knecht also lost close first sets to UW's Miki Kobayashi and Angela Li at lines three and six, respectively, with both losing by 6-4 scores. Kobayashi and Li put distance on Zador and Knecht in the second sets, however, winning 6-1 and 6-2.
Â
The Vikings take a week off before returning to Big Sky action with a home match against Northern Arizona on March 9. The Vikings' match against NAU will open up a five-match home stand for the Vikings, all against Big Sky opponents.
