OGDEN, Utah — The Portland State volleyball team turned around after a tough first set to play a quality second set against Weber State Saturday, but wasn't able to extend the match past three sets as the Wildcats swept the Vikings 25-14, 26-24, 25-12.

The Wildcats (16-9, 11-5 Big Sky) outhit the Vikings .337-to-.153 in the match, and hit over .375 in the first and third sets while holding the Vikings (5-23, 4-12 Big Sky) to under .200 in both.

The Wildcats took control early in the first set, going up 6-1 at the start of the match. The Vikings got back within two at 7-5, but a 9-2 Weber State run a little later gave the Wildcats a 20-9 lead that put the set out of reach.

The Vikings played much better at the start of the second set, leading most of the way until a 4-0 Weber State run gave the Wildcats a 23-21 lead late in the set. Freshman
Peyton McBride ended the Weber run with a kill, while a Weber attack error leveled the set again at 23-all.

Sophomore setter
Maddy Reeb tied it at 24-all with a kill two points later, but two PSU attack errors followed to give the Wildcats the set at 26-24.

The Wildcats held the advantage again in the early parts of the third set, running out to a six-point lead at 8-2. The Vikings got back within three a few different times, but a 7-1 Weber run gave the Wildcats a commanding 18-9 lead, and the Wildcats closed out the match from there.

Reeb led the Vikings with six kills against the Wildcats, while also totaling 20 assists and a team-high three blocks. Seniors
Jenna Mullen and
Katy Wilson followed with five kills each, while Mullen led all Vikings with 10 digs in the match. McBride also had five kills for the Vikings against the Wildcats, and added seven digs.

The Vikings have a quick turnaround for their next match, as they return home for their Senior Day match Tuesday against Sacramento State. The Vikings will host the Hornets at 7 p.m. (PT) Tuesday in the new Viking Pavilion.
