Portland State will be the top returning team to its own event when it hosts the eighth annual Rose City Collegiate Golf Tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Langdon Farms. The Vikings placed third in last year's version of the tournament, but champion Oregon State and second-place Sacramento State do not return in 2017.
Maybe that is a good omen for the Vikings, who got off to a good start earlier this week with a seventh-place finish at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, CO. PSU shot a team score of 882, with ranks as the fifth-best 54-hole tournament score in school history. And, Northern Colorado is the next highest placing team from last year's tournament returning this year (910, 8
th).
The Vikings will see a number of Big Sky Conference schools in their own event - six to be exact – and should be highly competitive in the field of 14 teams and 75 total players.
Head Coach
Kailin Downs will go with her same starting lineup when the teams tee it up at Langdon. That will include junior
Tara Finigan (220, t17 at the Ram Classic), sophomore
Jasmine Cabajar (220, t17), sophomore
Valerie Hernandez (223, t32), senior
Hannah Swanson (226, t43) and junior
Carson Pickett (230, t61).
Downs will also get her two freshmen into their first tournament action at Portland State.
Windy Huang and
Iliana Telles will tee it up as individual competitors.
