Defensive Coordinator Malik Roberson Released From Viking Football Program

Portland State Football has released Defensive Coordinator Malik Roberson following the conclusion of the Vikings season.

Roberson had been the Vikings DC the past three seasons and had worked at Portland State five seasons in all. PSU had a strong defensive showing in 2015 during a season in which the Vikings reached the FCS Playoffs. However, the past two years the defense had regressed.

This season, which ended with a 59-33 loss at Eastern Washington on Saturday, the Vikings allowed all-time highs of 43.0 points, 258.7 rushing yards and 493.3 yards per game.

"I want to thank Malik for his work at Portland State and commitment to the program," Said Viking Coach Bruce Barnum. "I feel the program needs to go a different direction on defense to be more productive."

Barnum will undertake an immediate search to hire a new defensive coordinator.
