MOSCOW, Idaho —
If you ever find yourself in any sort of trouble, get yourself a Katie Forsee and you'll be just fine.

Just over a minute after the Portland State women's soccer team gave up the lead to Idaho on the road, Forsee scored her ninth goal of the season to give the Vikings the lead back for good in a 2-1 win Sunday over the Vandals at the Kibbie Dome.

Forsee has scored the game-winning goal in six of the Vikings' eight wins this season, including four of the of the team's five Big Sky wins. Forsee's six game-winning goals this season also lead the Big Sky in the category, and rank her in the top 10 nationally.

Forsee set a new Portland State single-season school record with her six game-winning goals this season, and owns the school career record with 10 game-winners as a Viking, as well. Forsee will tie the single-season conference record for game-winning goals with her next game-winner, which would equal her with Northern Arizona's Haley Wingender, who had seven game-winning goals in 2014.

"It's always helpful to have someone like Katie on your team," Portland State head coach Katie Burton said after the match. "We played her as a target forward today to get her closer to goal and it worked out. Her and Diamond [Quinn, who assisted on Forsee's goal] had some tremendous chemistry today that we haven't seen yet and hope to see more of in the future."

The win came as a nice bounce back from Friday, when the Vikings lost for the first time in four matches in a battle for the top of the Big Sky table with Eastern Washington. The Eagles beat the Vikings 3-0 in Cheney, Wash., with first place in the Big Sky on the line.

The Vikings (8-7-0, 5-2-0 Big Sky) took back second place on their own with their win over the Vandals (5-9-2, 1-5-1 Big Sky), however, and now have 15 points in Big Sky play for the first time since 2014. Additionally, the Vikings stand six points clear of three teams tied for sixth in the conference standings, putting them in good position to qualify for their first Big Sky tournament since 2014 with only three regular-season matches remaining.

"We played quite a few players today after having some heavy legs from Friday," Burton said. "Our players that came off the bench were the difference makers and raised the level with their fresh legs and energy.

"Our team defense was a key to this win. Our backline and Abbie [Faingold] kept us very organized from back to front. Idaho plays a tough style to play against as they hit a lot of long balls that put us into foot races with quick forwards. Kristin Moyer was able to slow down the play when they had numbers running at us, however, and Abbie came up with some big-time saves that spread energy to the rest of our team.

"Teá Poore also won 90 percent of any aerial battles in the second half, which allowed us to keep possession."

Redshirt sophomore Maxine Nagramada put the Vikings up 1-0 in the first half against the Vandals with her second goal of the season. Nagramada scored the goal when the Idaho defense was only able to half clear a cross into the box from Diamond Quinn. That left Nagramada open to run onto the loose ball and one-time a low shot just inside the left post.

"Max hit a very difficult shot that was well placed," Burton said of the goal. "It came at a time when we weren't playing our best and gave us a boost to get into halftime and make adjustments."

Idaho leveled the match in the 62nd minute, when Megan Goo headed in a cross from Bridget Daley.

Forsee answered for the Vikings just 64 seconds after Goo's goal, however, giving the Vikings a lead they would not relinquish.

"We talk about momentum every pre-game, so to answer that goal was crucial to not allow them to gain any strength," Burton said. "What's most promising is they are showing signs of confidence and ability to handle adversity game after game."

The Vikings now return home for their final home stand of the regular season, as they host North Dakota and Northern Colorado next weekend. The Vikings will open the weekend against the Fighting Hawks at 1 p.m. Friday at Hillsboro Stadium.

Match Notes: The Vikings improve to 5-7-0 all time against the Vandals after Sunday's win…The Vikings and Vandals are also 2-2-0 against each other in Big Sky matches…Forsee now has 21 points this season, the most since Eryn Brown had 21 points in 2013…Forsee's nine goals this season also rank as the fourth-best single-season total ever by a Viking, and the best total since Dolly Enneking set the school record with 12 goals in 2009.
