Vikings Fall to Beavers, 9-1 in Five Innings

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Vikings dropped a non-conference matchup with the Oregon State Beavers, 9-1 in five innings, Tuesday afternoon in Corvallis, Ore.

The Vikings got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. Junior SheaLee Lindsey led off the game with a walk before moving to third on a single to right field by Shae Nelson. Lindsey and Nelson then pulled off a double-steal, bringing Lindsey in to score to put the Vikings up 1-0.

Portland State's lead did not last long. Oregon State recorded four-straight singles to start off the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1, forcing Portland State starting pitcher Karyn Wright from the game.

Meagan Hendrix came on in relief and got out of the jam with three consecutive outs. Hendrix could not get around a pair of errors in the bottom of the second as the Beavers plated six unearned runs to go up 7-1.

Oregon State plated two more runs in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 9-1 lead through three complete.

Portland State got three runners into scoring position over the final two innings but could not plate a run, falling in five innings. The Vikings went 0-for-6 on the day with runners in scoring position and just 1-for-6 with two outs.

Nelson went 2-for-3 on the day with a pair of singles. Lindsey walked twice and scored a run. Candice Orozco came up with the Vikings' only extra-base hit, a double in the fourth inning.

Hendrix was tabbed with the loss after allowing eight runs, two earned, on five hits over 2 2/3 innings. She fell to 3-5 on the season.

Oregon State improved to 25-12-1 overall on the year with the win, while Portland State fell to 11-22.
