Portland, OR - Portland State battled hard to the end, putting a scare into Northern Colorado, but the Vikings were defeated in their regular season home finale, 70-59, at the Stott Center.

Ashley Torres Negron led three Vikings in double figures, scoring a team-high 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Corey James pitched in with 11 points and seven rebounds, and Cici West added 10 points and six boards.

Kyleigh Hiser of Northern Colorado led all scorers with 21 points.
The Bears improved to 12-14 on the season, 7-9 in the Big Sky Conference. Portland State dropped to 3-24, 1-15.

Northern Colorado took advantage of 10 first-quarter turnovers by the Vikings, scoring nine points on those miscues. The Bears took an 13-2 lead midway through the quarter and were up 18-9 by the end of the first.

Portland State did a better job with ball-handling in the second quarter and shot it well. The Vikings got within 20-18 early in the second on a Torres layup. From there PSU made only 2-10 shots to close out the half and UNC led 31-24 at halftime.

The Bears made 14-34 shots (.412) in the first half compared to 10-25 for the Vikings (.400). Hiser had seven points for the Bears, while James had seven for the Vikings.

PSU's cold shooting continued into the second half as it was 3-15 from the field in the third quarter. That allowed Northern Colorado to pull away to a 48-32 lead.

The Vikings weren't done though, cutting the Bears lead all the way down to six in the fourth quarter. A James free throw with 4:01 left had the Vikings within 55-49. However, UNC went on a 10-3 run over the next two minutes to hold off the Vikings.

The Bears finished the game shooting 28-67 from the field (.418) and 8-9 at the line (.889). PSU was 24-59 (.407) and 8-17 at the line (.471). Northern Colorado's 17 steals were big as the Vikings turned it over 22 times, leading to 22 Bears' points.
