Vikings Fall to Broncos' Three-Point Barrage

BOISE, Idaho – Brooke Pahukoa hit seven of the Broncos' school record 18 three pointers as they shot their way past the Vikings for a 94-76 win Wednesday night in Boise, Idaho.

Boise State (2-0 overall) hit 18-of-30 (.600) from distance in a shooting barrage reminiscent of a Golden State team. Portland State (0-2) held its own, with 11 three-pointers in the contest, but it was not enough.

"We ran into a veteran team that shot the lights out tonight," second-year Head Coach Lynn Kennedy said following the game. "We matched their intensity for almost three quarters but we did not do a good job of taking care of the ball. I liked how we fought our way back into the game multiple times. We learned a lot about our team and we will continue to get better."

The Vikings were plagued by early turnover trouble. They turned the ball over 14 times in the first quarter, which led to 15 Boise State points. Portland State trailed by as much as 13 points in the first quarter but a 12-2 run late in the half cut the Broncos' lead to three points, 38-35, at the break.

Redshirt sophomore G Sidney Rielly led the Vikings with 13 points at the break. She finished the game with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting. She went 5-for-7 from three-point range and 2-for-2 at the line.

Portland State went scoreless for almost three minutes to start the second half as Boise State built an eight-point lead at 43-35. The turnover bug hit the Vikings again in the third quarter as they turned the ball over six time, which led to 12 points by the Broncos. In all, Boise State scored 34 points off 29 Portland State turnovers.

Boise State out-scored Portland State 29-18 in the third quarter and lead 67-53 heading to the fourth. The Vikings kept pace in the fourth but fell by the final 94-76 margin.

Redshirt sophomore G Ashley Bolston scored a career-high 18 points for the Vikings. She went 5-for-10 from the floor, 2-for-5 from distance, and 6-for-7 at the line. She added a pair of rebounds and four assists in 29 minutes.

Sophomore G Michaela Kay had a solid game off the bench. She knocked down 4-of-6 from the floor, all from three-point range. She added a pair of free throws for a season-high 14 points. She also led the Vikings with five assists.
